Beginning on May 3rd, Kilauea(the most active volcano on the Big Island) began to erupt and caused fissures to develop. Accompanying Kilauea's activity, have been a series of Earthquakes registering as high as the 6.9 that was recorded on Friday evening and have continued into Monday morning. Since these events, there have been continuous warnings pertaining to the ongoing dangers of lava, subsequent earthquakes as well as the sulfur dioxide gas that has been released into the air. With the ongoing and present dangers, I have been in contact with numerous groups on the Big Island and will be donating all proceeds from this campaign to various local non-profits that are on the ground level impacting those affected. Both immediate and long term needs will be supported and updates will be provided on this page as the disbursements are provided to the groups.

Natural disasters are disruptive, uncontrollable and unforgiving. These events have left many island residents and visitors in need of emergency assistance. It’s at a time like this that we must kōkua (help) and come together as an extended ‘ohana (family) to help those in need. If you can help, no matter the amount, it will mean the world to those who have lost so much in such a sudden turn of events. We feel that it’s our kuleana (responsibility) to do what we can to assist our neighbors, family, and friends. Let’s show the Big Island the meaning of the "Aloha Spirit".

I’d like to begin by thanking everybody for all of the love and support that you have given throughout this campaign. When all of this began, I knew that I needed to find a way to help those in need and as the events continued I knew that would be in the form of helping the community rebuild. With the incredible amount raised here, the Habitat for Humanity Hawai’i Islands Organization will be able to help those individuals who have lost it all. Please visit their website at http://www.habitathawaiiisland.org/ and sign up for their newsletter for updates.

As things progressed, I was approached by my fellow athletes from the islands about how we can all come together collectively and unite in the rebuilding effort. We have begun planning on how to approach this challenge and will announce those efforts shortly. With that in mind I’d still like to mention that Habitat will be receiving funds from the new initiative but this new push allows us to expand our rebuilding efforts. We have turned off donations to this campaign so I now I ask that you please join me and the rest of the athletes in our new challenge here: www.HeroesforHawaii.org.

Last but not least, your countless number of prayers and well wishes along with the thousands of social media shares have not gone unnoticed. No matter how you were able to share my mission and contribute to the efforts, I want to sincerely thank you all from the bottom of my heart. None of this could have been done without you all!

Aloha,

Kolten

Hello everyone,

I am overwhelmed by the huge amount of love and support that has been shown to the people of my beautiful home. In just one month, over $70,000 has been raised to help those affected by the eruption at Kilauea.

I am proud to share that I have partnered with Habitat for Humanity Hawai’i Island to act as the beneficiary of my campaign. Their organization will be managing and distributing the funds to assist displaced families of the lava flow areas. We will know more details in the coming weeks as things settle, and we can properly access the extent of the damage. Habitat administrators remain in contact with Mayor Harry Kim and plan on meeting to discuss the long-term recovery effort. We will continue to update you all as we know more!

Thanks to each and every one of you and the GoFundMe team for helping support my loved ones on the Big Island, even when I’m far from home. We wouldn’t have been able to do this without you all.
Please continue to spread the word and share this campaign as we are far from done.

Aloha,

Kolten
