Anti-Asian racism has a long history in Canada. COVID-19 has fueled racist rhetoric, resulting in another year of escalated violence against the Asian diaspora in Canada. In 2021 alone, there were 943 reports of racist attacks across Canada, representing a 47% increase in reports compared to 2020.

Another year of racist attacks: surge in anti-Asian violence in Canada
Last year, Project 1907 and the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter were able to crowdsource 100% of the funding needed for the analysis and writing of the 2021 national report. They learned that reports by South Asian and Southeast Asian people increased dramatically compared to 2020, by 318% and 121% respectively. Reports by children and adolescents increased by 286% compared to 2020, while reports by young adults increased by 43%. They learned there is still work to be done.
This year, you can support the joint effort of CCNCTO and Project 1907 in their data collection initiatives, including bringing their respective platforms together into one centralized reporting centre for anti-Asian racism experienced by the Asian diaspora in Canada.
Funds will be used to complete a rigorous review of the research questions and methodology, expand language access, and build a secure new tool that will help document the rise of anti-Asian racism and uplift Asian communities across Canada. All donations will be received and administered by the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter.

Project 1907 is situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
