Shannon was in an accident on her way home on 5 November. Trapped and unable to move or call for help for an estimated 7 hours, it wasn’t until the next morning, that rescuers found her. She was rushed to Southlake and then Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto for emergency surgery on her spine.
Shannon has a suffered serious Spinal Cord Injury, as well as various other injuries consistent with being in a motor vehicle accident. We, her family, are still learning what the extent of the damage is, but doctors believe that Shannon will need significant after hospital care support for the rest of her life.
Shannon will be at the hospital for at least 2-3 weeks, and in rehab for many weeks. After that, she has a long road ahead, adapting to her injuries and working towards recovery from the trauma.
Unfortunately, while we look into the financial support that is available to Shannon, we've been told by professionals that it will be woefully inadequate for the care that she will need. As a 31 year old woman, Shannon will need support for many years to come.
This GoFundMe is to support Shannon and her recovery.
Thank you very much for your support,
