Alannah's fight against leukemia

On March 26th, 2021 our families lives were turned upside down when Alannah was diagnosed with a rare form of “hybrid” Leukemia at the young age of 12.

It started with a fever 3 weeks prior and what seemed to be symptoms of a cold. Alannah was back and forth between home and the North Bay Regional Health Centre as her fever would not break. It was presumed that she had pneumonia and was on antibiotics for this. Her fever continued and after completing multiple x-rays blood work was completed. The blood work showed her white blood cell count was very low and further testing was needed. Alannah was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) where a bone marrow test was completed and it was determined that she had Leukemia.

We now know that she has a rare form of Leukemia affecting only 3% in the world.  Currently she is undergoing treatment and we have a promising treatment plan to get her and our parents back home. We were told her treatment will be 2 1/2 years starting with 5 weeks of treatment in hospital, which she has begun.  If the treatment shows progress, she will be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House while she completes an additional 8 weeks of treatment.

Our parents (Terri-Lynn and Glenn) are working together to get Alannah better, but due to the current pandemic help is limited as they are the only ones allowed to be physically in the hospital. Alannah will require special care over the next couple years of her treatment, so we decided to make this go fund me to help with the costs associated with being away from home, and our parents not being able to work full time.

This fund will be used to support them to be together as a family and to be next to Alannah every step throughout her long journey. All donations of any value are generous and are appreciated more than we can ever express, even if its just keeping them in your thoughts.

Our family would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone for their generosity whether contributing through donations or being by our side and thinking of Alannah. Also, a huge THANK YOU to the medical staff at both CHEO and the NBRHC, the great team working with Alannah and to everyone at Ronald McDonald House and to all their contributors for making the transition to this new reality as seamless as possible!

Thank you , updates will be posted as we continue this journey.
