Andrew's Return Overseas!

This week last year, I found myself on an evacuation flight out of Africa. Little did I know that 12 months later I would still be in Canada. COVID put a halt on my mission in South Africa and brought me back to Canada. Fast forwarding one full year being stuck in Canada, March 31st will be the completion of my contract at The Grind Pembroke and I am looking forward being able to return to overseas.

Over the past few months, both South Africa and Thailand are starting to reopen its borders to foreigners (Canadians). During the past few months we have also learned so much about the COVID virus; how to protect ourselves and others around us to make sure that the most vulnerable around us stay healthy. As of March 12th I have been vaccinated and am waiting for my second dose. After much discussion and prayer, I have decided to begin the process of applying for a visa and work permit to Southeast Asia to do something that I am passionate about...ESL teaching and to educate the next generation.

The Plan:

This past summer all my personal belongings and ministry office was packed up in White River, South Africa and put into storage so that my apartment could be put back onto the housing market. During the COVID lockdown I was forced to leave everything behind...including my car. I plan to return to South Africa to close all of my accounts, sign off on my vehicle and clean out the storage unit which holds all of my personal belongings. I also want to have a proper goodbye and debrief with my South African   ministry partners, friends and colleagues as I didn't even get to say goodbye during my quick departure out of the county.

The next step would be to say goodbye to South Africa (as my ministry contract ended since the COVID lockdown) and say hello again to Thailand! I have accepted a teaching position at a school in central Thailand. This position needs me to be there by mid-May. With COVID regulations, changes to visa processing, manditory COVID quarantine times (government hotels) and specific pre-approved COVID health insurance policies that are now needed for entering Thailand, this isn't going to be a cheap transition!

Start Up Budget:

Multiple Entry Thai B Visa: $300
COVID Pre-Approved Health Insurance: $260
Flight to South Africa from Canada: $850
Flight to South Africa to Thailand: $600
Thailand Quarantine Facility Upon Entry (Two weeks): $1,600

Other fees include work permit fee, airport fees, baggage/luggage, train ticket, airport shuttles, COVID testing, etc.

I am hoping to raise at least $2,000 in the next four weeks to help cover SOME of the expenses for my ministry trip (South Africa) and start up costs (Thailand).
