Gertie's Last Wish-Camp for Kids with Disabilities

Our 85 year old mother, Gertrude Hynes, has always best enjoyed her life when in service to others or working on one volunteer mission or another.   Mom lives in the town of Corner Brook on the west coast of Newfoundland.  She was instrumental in the fundraising campaign to complete the palliative care family rooms at the local hospital.  This was a focused mission and a great achievement for the whole community.

Mom's current fundraising quest is to collect enough money to see to the reconstruction of Cabin 11 at Killdevil Church Camp.  The goal is to reconstruct this cabin to become an accessible unit that is fully equipped to house a child with disabilities and his/her caregiver (if required).  We need $95,000 to cover the material, equipment and construction of the Camp Hut.

The Killdevil Camp was opened in July of 1959 and Mom was involved and fondly remembers working with Bishop Seaborn to open the camp.

Very recently, Mom's been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic cancer.  Her time and ability to actively fundraise is drawing to a close.  With what little time Mom has left, we would love to help make her final wish a reality.

If there are additional funds collected above and beyond the reconstruction costs, that money will be used to cover the cost of camp enrollment for eligible children who do not have the means.

A detail of how all funds are used during the reconstruction will be available through updates.

We are so grateful for any and all donations.
