Hospitals across Gujarat (India) are in a dire need for Oxygen supply.
Need: We represent a conglomerate of welfare trust run hospitals and are trying to procure 100+ Oxygen Concentrator devices from global vendors at a reduced cost. These portable devices concentrate oxygen from Air and can funnel it to the patients.
More on the need below
Plan: We have already raised enough amount for the initial purchase of 20 devices within India. These concentrators will be delivered to GSWT Hospital in Ahmedabad on April 27th. Please read more about GSWT Hospital at: https://shifahospitalahmedabad.com/ or below.
With this appeal, we want to widen the net and extend the support to more hospitals and clinics across Ahmedabad and nearby districts.
Our goal is to equip every GSWT run in-patient clinic and ambulance with a 10L mobile Oxygen concentrator during the month of May as peak cases are expected around mid-May. We will then focus on increasing the availability of Ventilators in the targeted areas in Ahmedabad and Surat.
I and Dr Salim Saiyed will personally oversee purchase and shipment of the Concentrators. We are already in touch with several suppliers, manufacturers and shipping providers.
More details on the Plan of Action below.
More Details on the need:
Two days ago, We got a call from one of our associates about the severe and continuous need for oxygen and ventilators for one of the hospitals run by a Welfare trust that we routinely support. This multi-specialty hospital (run by Gujarat Sarvajanik Welfare Trust) provides healthcare to thousands of people every week.
With a tsunami of new and current cases and peak expected in next few weeks, we got down to brainstorming and decided that we could not rely solely on the supplies from government sources and have to focus on acquiring the O2 concentrators for the patients who are experiencing shortness of breath but are not needed to be intubated. Numbers of these patients are increasing by the minute.
More Details on the Plan:
Over last six days, we have vetted, shortlisted and vetted the vendors again to select two that could reliably supply the concentrators within next few days. The plan is to procure and deploy these and more concentrators across the state of Gujarat. Vast majority of severe cases are coming from the rural areas in this second wave. These areas even though only 100 or so kms away from the big cities but have very little or no healthcare delivery facilities. We will target these areas to perform testing and deliver treatment using the medical team that is in place.
Please see updates sections to keep up with our progress. We have updated this story to reflect the course corrections we had to employ over last few days.

As we have joined forces with Dr Salim's initiative. We will combine the funds for procurement/shipping of the concentrators.
-------- Our pledge --------
We are committed to deliver 100 Oxygen concentrators over next few weeks. We strongly believe that this will alleviate the pressure on the hospitals and equip them with much needed infrastructure to continue the fight against the COVID-19 in India.
