Dads 4 Daughters in STEM

Dad’s for Daughters in STEM (D4DSTEM) is a network volunteer driven not-for-profit organization that is committed to empowering parents and caregivers in supporting Canadian children—particularly girls ages 3 to 15 in lower socio-economic neighbourhoods—to be innovators and leaders in the global economy. We do this by providing diverse and fun STEM activities, resources, and events that build confidence and curiosity to prepare our youth for a brighter future.

Your financial support will go directly to producing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs, including the development of a scholarship program that will fully fund subscriptions and monthly delivery of STEM-based activities to parents of young girls that may not have the financial means to do so themselves. Your support will also be used to develop recurring, community-based events such as an annual STEM toy drive that collects and distributes STEM-inspired toys to children in the community. In our first event, we distributed over 150 toys to children in the community and we want to grow this to show that STEM-education can be fun!

At Dads for Daughters in STEM (D4DSTEM), we believe that foundational skills in STEM will help prepare kids for any career path they choose to pursue to live better lives.

Our goal is to ensure that all Canadian kids between the ages of 3 to 15 – particularly girls, who have been historically underrepresented in STEM - are given equal opportunity to build our future.  The ultimate goal will be to help achieve STEM career gender parity by 2035 and partner with other for profit and not-for-profit organizations and municipal, provincial, and federal governments to achieve this goal.

We’re mainly focused on caregivers including both parents, but we believe Dads play a special role. Because 80% of STEM jobs are by men, we think there is a great opportunity to both transfer knowledge and demonstrate to our kids that STEM is gender neutral. What better way to do this than to have Dads partner with their daughters on activities?
