Repatriation of Felix & Immediate Need for Support

We are all saddened to know the untimely passing away of Felix Rajan, a charming and energetic young man, who lived his life to the fullest, and was an active member of our Malayali Community here, ever since he arrived in Canada.

He is survived by his wife Josna, and two young children - A 13-year-old girl Fiona, and an 11-year-old boy, Ivan. Because of the various challenges and battles, Felix had been facing in the recent past, the family had to suffer quite a bit and are in a terrible financial situation. To add to the miseries, Josna is not working now as they are in India, tending to her Mom, who is suffering from Stage 4 Cancer. Their immediate future looks very bleak even after coming back to Canada, because of the financial commitments they must honor.

We as a community have a responsibility to send Felix back to India so that his family, Mom, and siblings can say goodbye to him and lay him to rest in his homeland.

We also cannot forget his Wife and Children, who have a big financial liability on their shoulders, which needs to be cleared before they are able to start living, once they are back in Canada.

We at KCABC are grateful to all of you for your help in the past in similar situations. We sincerely request all of you to be sympathetic and understanding to the reality faced by this young family and be generous in your support for this cause.

Who you are and your relationship to the intended recipient(s) of your fundraiser's donations:

I (Jayaram Padmam Sthanumalayan) the president of Kerala Cultural Association of BC (KCABC), an Ethnic organization - of people from the province of Kerala, India. The deceased person and his family are from our ethnic background and are active members of this community.  As a community, we are trying to gather funds to help the family of the deceased and also to repatriate the body of the deceased.

A detailed explanation of how the funds will be spent:

For the last couple of years, the family was facing various challenges as a result of an addiction issue faced by the deceased. They have a line of credit that needs to close as soon as possible before they can start rebuilding their life in Canada. We are trying to collect CAD 30,000.00, of which CAD 9000.00 will be spent to repatriate the body of the deceased to India for burial and the balance of CAD 21000.00, will be used to clear the debts that are on the family.

Your plan for ensuring your fundraiser's donations reach their intended recipient(s).  This could be clarifying that they will be added as the beneficiary of the fundraiser, or if they have authorized you to withdraw the funds on their behalf and deliver the money to the outside of GoFundMe:

The family of the deceased is currently in India and the next of kin that is in Canada is his wife's brother-in-law. This fundraiser has been initiated in consultation with him and also our community leaders (Board of Directors of Kerala Cultural Association of BC) and also the Pastor of the Catholic Parish where the deceased was a member (Rev. Fr. Sajy Chakkittamuriyil, Pastor, St Alphonsa Syro Malabar Catholic Parish, Surrey, BC).  The funds will be deposited into the bank account of Kerala Cultural Association of BC for now and will be handed over to the wife and children of the deceased, as soon as they return to Canada. The entire process is well documented and the fundraising details are made known to all members of the community. The community will also be informed when the funds are handed over to the family of the deceased.

Thank you,

Jayaram Sthanumalayan
President, KCABC.
