Our pilot country Somalia – has one of the world’s highest child and maternal mortality rates in the world. In Somalia, women and girls have limited access to health services, and maternal mortality rates are amongst the highest in the world. According to UNICEF, every 2 hours a mother dies due to pregnancy complications and four in 100 Somali children die before the first month of life, eight in 100 before their first birthday, and 1 in 8 before they turn five (UNICEF, 2019).

Our solution was designed  improve patient access to records, enhance understanding and adherence to healthcare policies, and build patient trust in health systems through innovative and community-centric methods. OGOW EMR is available in desktop and mobile format (online and offline), and in addition to basic health information for the patient, it possesses a caregiver interface for adherence to immunization schedules, basic healthcare and disease prevention educational videos, and a Q+A functionality all in the Somali language.

OGOW EMR  is running COVID-19 awareness campaigns in Somali, endorsed by the Somali Federal Ministry of Health. They are working alongside community champions to increase local education and uptake. Additionally, we've partnered with SomRep a consortium of seven major international agencies that adopted the OGOW EMR  app to target over 45,000 pastoralists from across 45 villages with COVID-19 risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) interventions.
