We have all heard the famous phrase "In a blink of an eye everything can change", well I can assure you that this is true. Last week, Tanya began to experience flu like symptoms (high fever, muscle pain, weakness, shivers, soar throat, neck pain and as she quoted, the worst migraine she ever had in her life). As Tanya thought she was coming down with a cold and as the week went on, her symptoms worsened and she started mentioning she had a pain in her neck but continued to rest thinking it would pass.
On Friday April 18th 2021, her mother received a text from Tanya "help" was what she texted her. Her mother rushed to her house and immediately called the ambulance. Tanya was taken into the emergency and has since passed multiple tests to help explain what she has. She took a covid test in which her result is negative. Using her blood work, they ran over 250 tests to see if it was a bacterial or a viral infection. She was on antibiotics and antiviral without any improvement. They have done an MRI scan and concluded that she had Encephalitis 2 days after her admission. As of yet, what caused her Encephelitis is still unknown.
Her speech and mobility have been impaired, she is now awaiting further tests. Tanya was induced into a coma in hope that it wouldn't cause further damage and to help decrease the swelling in her brain. She was put on a respirator because she started to have signs of respiratory distress. As they tried to wake her from her induced coma, she was Unfortunately unable to wake up on her own. Due to this unknown condition, her MRI's show severe damage to her spinal cord and her brain. They have started her on high doses of steroids as well as immunogobulins, in hope that if it is an autoimmune disease this helps her condition.
Today, April 21st 2021, we are awaiting another MRI to see if her condition has stabilized, improved or degraded.
Tanya is a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grand-daughter, a niece, a cousin and a friend. She is a devoted, loving, caring mother to her 5 and a half year old son. Going on adventures, discovering the world, new activities, Tanya's pride and absolute joy is her son. Tanya is someone who is free spirited, full of joy, never wanted any negative energy around her. She is known to be a goofy, silly, funny girl and definitely the life of the party and can put a smile on anyone's face. There is never a dull moment with her. We have hope that Tanya will pull through. She is a natural born fighter.
The funds raised will go towards specialized medical care if need be, to the family during this difficult time and for her rehabilitation. Please share as much as possible. We appreciate everyone's support and we will keep updating the page.
