Help support our studio in buying a new kiln, and gain access to day 1 of my online hand-building course!
Hi my name is Sarah Anne Eby, mentor and maker of sae POTTERY. I’m part of a ceramic studio in the Mile-End of Montreal. Our studio needs a new kiln for pottery classes and to make a livelihood from what we love.
As some of you already know, both ceramics and education are my greatest passions! For 10 years now I’ve been working as a teacher in schools and running my own business making and teaching pottery. I believe my greatest contribution is giving people the opportunity to create with clay. In a world that feels increasingly unstable, kneading clay with your hands is a great way to unplug and connect with the present moment.
The kiln is a type of oven crucial for the ceramics process. Currently in the studio we are sharing one small kiln between 5 artists. It’s an older kiln that yields unpredictable results, and often needs repair. Relying on one kiln to complete the work of all five of us is slowing down our turnaround time. From start to finish, a single piece takes 6-8 weeks. Having a new kiln will not only help our production, but create space for pottery classes!
For the pottery teachers in the studio, our income relies partially on our classes. Due to the pandemic, my class sizes were reduced from 6 to 3 people and have been cancelled since December. Now that public classes are becoming possible again, the second kiln would help support 5 artist’s productions as well as student work.
With this GoFundMe, I’m hoping to raise $7,000 for the medium sized R-200 Euclid kiln and its installation.
Everyone who donates, will gain access to day 1 of my 6 day All-Ages Online Hand-Building Course. Through this beginner class, you will learn the fundamentals of hand-building through making a pinch pot or a decorative dish. Whether you are in Montreal or not, you will be able to join the online class in the Fall from the comfort of your home.
The class will be open to all levels and require minimal tools, most of which can be easily found in your kitchen at home. No knowledge of ceramics or sculptural practices required. Join the rest of the course to learn how to make cups, bowls, vases, plates, sculptural and decorative objects with texture.
Thank you so much for considering our studio and student’s creative minds! It has been said "it takes a village....” Thanks so much for being a part of our community!
