Merighan is my cousin Kristen’s daughter. They live near Ottawa Canada.
Along with their family, Kristen, Chris and
Kieran, they have dealt with more than their
fair share of hard times.
Merighan has Sanfillipo Syndrome. Its fatal,
poorly researched and regressive. It’s
called Alzheimers for children and is so very
sad. Merighan has lost the ability to walk, talk and function on her own. She is a full adult
sized female who requires 24 hour care, rarely if ever
sleeps well and has complex and exhausting
medical requirements. They do have some
help but because Merighan is over 18, there
are few resources available to them.
Kristen has taken leave from her work to care for Merighan, Chris was laid off but is now
working as an IT consultant, but
the current economy and Merighan’s
long-term and complex medical needs has
taken its toll. They are doing their best with
incredible grace and love but they are
Merighan is housebound, isolated and their
house needs to be adapted. Covid has meant
outings and outdoor exercising are difficult. At their home, the upstairs bathroom
and bedroom are no longer suitable.
To help improve quality of life for this family,
we are looking to fund a mobility bike
for Mer to laugh and feel the wind in her face , and,
funds to remove and complete the terrible bathroom renovations that were
started to move Merighan to the main floor.
This family, who have helped so many, need our help.
