An Indigenous mother falling through the cracks

In todays world indigenous people are constantly being written off
by so called government institutions that are supposed to be in place to help our people,
yet time and time again fail us leaving us to surrender to our situations.

I’ve now had to watch this happen to my own mother, Sandi Verley, as
a very serious head injury that has altered her life and daily functionality
has been dismissed by the medical system as something that will go away in “time.”
Despite my mothers various pleas to see a brain specialist, in the current online world we live in her
requests have been mishandled by Work Safe BC
& chalked down to a zoom call with a neurologist who laughed at her and told her
“It’ll just take time” instead of having a proper assessment with someone willing to actually do something.
“It’ll just take time” doesn’t cut it when you are being refused your Work Safe payments while they’re all skipping to the back with their
wages.

Where do we turn to when we can’t ask for help?

I’ve been struggling to keep myself a float and be able to help my mother wherever I can
but unfortunately the reality of her situation is getting increasingly worse & I myself can’t keep up with
being able to provide for my incredible mother who has provided for me her entire life.

After many attempts to have her put away her pride
and share her story online and ask for help she has finally aloud me to do so
as a last resort to finding some stabilization at this time.

A lot of people see glimpses of my mom as a supportive high functioning person here and there on my instagram stories
but what you don’t see is the constant loss of balance, the frustration of not being able to string together full sentences,
the screaming in pain and the ultimate defeat of having no one to reach out too.

Due to her increasingly worsening condition, and having to take time off work to fight covid
she was let go from her recent work place with no notice and left scrambling.
My mom is on the verge of losing everything due to our backwards healthcare system
that seems to take pride in letting indigenous people fall through the cracks.

So please I am asking you if you can afford anything to help my moms situation right now
it would truly mean the world to both of us.
We’re looking to get her financial situation stabilized
so she is able to pursue proper medical attention without having to push her health any further.

The money raised from this go fund me will go towards covering her rent and paying bills for the next couple of months.
