This family was living in Innisfil, Ontario.
'Sarah' had been primarily a stay at home mom, doing odd jobs from home and had been in a relationship for several years.
When Covid hit, life started to slowly fall apart.
Suddenly the entire family was under pressure being isolated at home all the time (one child has Autism and several serious medical issues which is an added burden on the household). Then the partner lost his job due to Covid and his entire personality became very hostile and very agitated, leading to their break up.
'Sarah' immediately realized there would be absolutely no way to cover the rent of the house she was in, so she gave her notice and began reaching out everywhere for help. She called all the local shelters but every time she called, she was told they were full and it would be months before an opening. She reached out for affordable housing and was told the waiting list to get a subsidized apartment is several years. She began getting desperate and reached out to her church as well as several local groups / agencies /services.....looking for help .
People pitched in and they were able to secure help to get their belongings into storage. People also reached out on her behalf and were able to find a local agency that could put them up in a hotel on an emergency basis only.
However, this hotel is in Angus, which is 40 kms away from their community. It has a small fridge and microwave only as a way to keep her children fed. It does not allow pets. Her son which has severe Autism has a Service Dog, since no pets allowed they had to place the dog with friends and her son is struggling without his dog.
WE NEED TO HELP THIS FAMILY FIND PERMANENT HOUSING ASAP!
She says she has some money saved and a little more may be coming from tax return to help, but she has no way to come up with full first and last for rent!
