Please help and support Ethil McCrabb

Hi everyone,

My name is Matthew McLeod and I am the oldest son of Ethil McCrabb. My mom was recently involved in a horrible car accident involving an impaired transport driver on April 23rd 2021 in Owen Sound Ontario. The impaired transport driver had hit mom from behind at high speed while mom was approaching to stop at a red light. When impacted by the transport, mom had been crushed into a SUV in front of her that was stopped at the red light, then continued to be pushed through the intersection until the force of the momentum had stopped. Mom was flown to the Victoria hospital in London Ontario, and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit with complicated injuries.

Mom lives with her partner Craig, and they have been in love ever since they got together 16 years ago. Friends and family see this every time they're together because we know they found their match. Craig has been by her side and loves her unconditionally everyday. Knowing this and seeing this makes our family so happy and we couldn't ask for a better person to be by her side everyday. A best friend to mom, A Father to sons. A Poppa to his grandkids. We love you Craig.

Mom loves to be with her friends. They all call her "E". She would always tidy up before get togethers to impress, and would make sure the platter of food is fresh and full. She would enjoy the bike ride adventures with smiles or just being able to sit on the back porch enjoying the sunshine with you all. A fun banter or bickering match for a good laugh, but always attentive and compassionate. She loves you all, and I know she can't wait to see you all again.

Mom is a travelling foot care nurse. She loves her patients and would tell me its like she's on vacation hanging out with her friends while at work. She would have tea with them, and spend that extra special time to share stories about their lives.  She would intentionally create a gap in her schedule to spend more time with her patients, and that shows how much she cherished her relationships. She has touched so many lives in the community with her care and comfort and as I go through her patients list to deliver the news; they grieve and mourn for mom because she has been a special part of their day each visit.

Mom loves her family. Each. And. Every. One. Of. You. This is an extremely difficult time for everyone and I can't imagine the pain mom went through that morning, or the pain she will be under for the rest of her life. She did not deserve this. No one does. There is so much emotion right now, and we want our mom, our sister, our partner, our gramma, our auntie, our cousin, our best friend, BACK! But we MUST collect together to send our STRENGTH! She's a strong woman with a heart of gold, and she will FIGHT! She has always wanted to be a gramma - trust me I heard it many times over! When Leah and Brysen came into the world, being a gramma became her new chapter, and she WILL turn that page to keep writing that story. We all know she WILL, because she's a FIGHTER! She WILL battle this and she WILL pull through. Our STRENGTH is what she needs!

The Nurses and doctors have been amazing here in London, and we will continue to send our strength and prayer for her recovery. They are caring, compassionate and thrall... just like mom. What these nurses and doctors do everyday is truly amazing. Their mental strength is exactly what mom will need as Mom will have a lot of work ahead of her.

As tough as it is to write this, mom's birthday is Friday April 30th, and this is our birthday wish.

For those of you that know Mom and Craig, they are both genuine, modest and never would never ask for a nickle. You know its true!

Many of you have reached out and asked how can you help, and I believe this may be the best way.  It is a lot to take in, and we really appreciate the space you have given us right now to understand where all of this is going. It's tiring, its emotional, but we are committed for mom. We are so grateful on how many friends and family have reached out to Craig and I as well as family members.

Until we understand how insurance will support Mom and Craig, this gofundme campaign is to support their income loss and expenses, until there's a better understanding how all of this works. This is scary and I'm unsure how long this will take or where this is all going; but I hope this will be temporary.

The support will help Craig cover the income loss from mom.
Mom has always been a stickler when it comes to budgets and she has always been disciplined to paying her contribution. I would like for this to continue, as she would never want to see Craig struggle.

It will be an - "as needed" - account to pull from, or other needs that may not be covered through insurance. We are new at this, but I will assure you It will be disciplined, by budget and focused on how you have supported mom and Craig through this horrible time.
If at all, any unused contributions will be up to mom once she is able, which I hope can be a celebration when she is ready and is home.

We have a long road ahead of us, but through perseverance, determination, our collective strength, and love; she will get through this. She's a Fighter.

We love you Mom and Craig, so, so much!!!!!

Matt, Andy, and all of our Family.
