Grassy Narrows people love the land and rely on the land to live our way of life, feed our families, practice our ceremonies, and teach our children what it means to be Anishinaabe.
Please donate what you can to help us restore access to our forests by fixing up our bush roads.
Since Grassy Narrows banned industrial logging and mining on our Territory the government of Ontario has stopped maintaining the bush roads that are used by our people, hunters, fishers, campers, and others to access the forest. The roads are now in terrible condition and many people cannot reach the places where their families hunt, fish, and pick berries and medicines. This is also a dangerous situation because the bush roads are our escape route in case there is a disaster like a forest fire and right now that escape route is cut off.
Grassroots Grassy Narrows people are exercising our inherent rights by fixing the roads ourselves. We have the skills and the tools, but we need funds to buy new culverts for stream crossings that have washed out.
We need two culverts that are 4ft by 60 ft each. They cost $9,100 each.
Once the culverts are paid for we will still need to pay for machine operators, gas, and other materials.
Any amount that you donate will help. Together we will restore access to Grassy Narrows' forests and help to keep our relationship with our land and our way of life strong.
Please support Grassy Narrows' in this important next step in continuing to assert our Sovereignty over our lands and protecting the sources of life.
