It took a global pandemic and a resulting desert of a work schedule, but it's finally happening! I am writing a solo show, and I'm super mega excited about it! (And just a little bit terrified) "You're Not Alone: Music and Stories about Solitude" will be a 75-minute multidisciplinary experience where I share three deeply personal stories about solitude and weave them into a soundscape of electronic music and live improvisatory violin.

I am extremely honored to have received funding from the Canada Arts Council to create a prototype for "You're Not Alone," but it accounts for only 40% of my research/creation budget. Friends, this is where I need your help! I am hoping to raise a minimum of $2,500 to ensure that I can rent or buy all the equipment I need to create the coolest music possible, and also pay my three wonderful artistic mentors who are helping me reach my full creative potential. Any money raised above this goal will pay for my living expenses as I work on this project, and/or production costs once I have finished the prototype!

I know many of you are fellow artists who have also lost most of their work from Covid-19, so it would mean the world if you are able to contribute even just $5-10. Any amount helps! If you have the means though, and you believe in this project, the Creative Gods will truly smile down on you for opening up that fat wallet.

More about the Project

I will spend 8 months (April 1-November 30, 2021) writing the stories, learning how to get the most out of Ableton Live, creating and recording music to heighten the stories, then editing and mixing it all together to make a prototype for "You're Not Alone." In the Fall of 2021, I will transition to the production phase, where I will begin performing excerpts via live-stream, pitching the show to presenters/festivals, developing it further at creative residencies, and producing it into an album. (And if that isn't already crazy enough, I want to expand the stories into a book!)

I feel compelled to write a show about solitude because well, I don't know about you, but I've been spending an awful lot of time alone this past year. As an introvert, normally I relish my time alone to reflect, but suddenly being alone 24/7 felt... intense. I learned very quickly what my vices were to avoid reality: perpetually scrolling social media, binge-watching comedies on Netflix, and texting cute boys that had absolutely no interest in me whatsoever. Unless you're Buddha incarnate, you probably relied on some vices too: alcohol, drugs, porn, over-work, unhealthy food, video games... the list goes on. What I found though, is the more I allowed myself to actually be alone, the more I healed wounds I have been carrying my entire life. I went from believing I am all alone in this world, to having a deep spiritual epiphany while pooping in a campground outhouse. So, why not turn it into a show!!

Where your money will go (COSTS):

What you will get:

Please accept my undying love and gratitude for your donation, no matter how small! I know how much willpower it takes to read to the bottom of a long description like this, and then STILL click on that box to donate and follow the steps. It means the world to have your support, and I want you to know I appreciate you all very much!

Keep checking back here, because I will update this page at all the big milestones of You're Not Alone. When I start workshopping material online for private audiences in the Fall of 2021, I will send out links to donors. When the show goes into production, you'll be the first to know!

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!!!

Lots of love,
