On Saturday, August 4th, downtown's upper Princess Street (The Hub) here in Kingston, ON, had an abrupt interruption to a few businesses along its northern side of Princess Street.

A Water Main break occurred, with that, one business; Brian's Record Option, took the brunt of the damages of the fast rising waters creeping from the lower floors, upwards.  As Brian and a passer-by pedestrian tried to quickly salvage some merchandise, it was no match for the fast rising waters.

Many, if not most of Brian's 40 year legacy is music merchandise has been lost, or mostly unrepairable due to water damage.  Whether it be records, tapes, cds or posters, some of which is irreplaceable.   Brian had stated to local news that depending on once he is given the clear to access his business, it may be the sudden subtle end to his life's hobby and resource of income.

This Go Fund Me page is created on the sole purpose that, in my heart, is a way to see that Brian (Lipsin) can find comfort from the friends and customers of this community.  Whether you are from Kingston, a tourist or a friend of a friend, who's ever visited his music haven, you know just how unique the experience of visiting his store was.  Music hobbyist and first time musicians walk through the store with a sense of awe and inspire on the collections he has accrued, but leave knowing that if ever there was a knack that they may need to find a certain album, Brian's was surely the place to remember to check back.

I know my first visit in my teens was a big impact on what music I enjoyed, and to this day periodically, always remembered instead of looking at box stores, or the internet, that his store had answers to an album I may be in search of.  It was always the sense that we have that option in Kingston, it is Brian's Record Option.

So, I ask of all Kingstonians, community surrounding, or just put of the heart to help save a local business.  Help restore in this unfortunate, untimely disaster from becoming another lost staple of our downtown history.

Thanks for your time reading this.

Regards; A local fan!

Hello donors and friends of Brian's a Record Option.

I was meaning to close the account last week, but came within an great gift on top of this campaign, which had to allow me to keep this campaign open. With all the kind comments posted to Facebook, social media sites and this GoFundMe page, with the comments gathered, if you visit his newly reopened store in the future, please keep your eye out for a collage of comments from everyone who's shared their love and their nostalgia of his store.

When I started this campaign in August, it was out of a good heart for me to want to gather people, and recognize a piece of history for Kingston. Brian himself, not has, but IS a staple of what a personal small business means, and what it is to help support your local community. His store is a staple of the downtown district, a one of a kind place for lost gems. Without a store like his, it would be a great travel to other cities to find not even half of the rarity his business had for customers.

Upon starting this campaign, I never thought to myself, setting a goal to what I projected, would have reached a ¼ of what it did. This campaign has showed the compassion we all have to think for someone else, other than ourselves.

In closing, thank you from myself, and Brian as well, as he has seen the funds as they come in weekly. Please visit if you're within the downtown area to keep up on the restoration and rebuild of Brian's Record Option store.

Thank you once again.

Michael C.

Dear donors:

In case you are not local, and cannot access the Whig Standard news paper, here is an online article from Brian himself, praising the generosity to everyone.

Hello to the donors for the Brian's Record Option Fund.

Just wanted to keep everyone up to date on the progress of the campaign after hitting week one.

I met again with Brian this weekend, between myself and local media who was interviewing him at the time, he discussed the great support and love from the many different benefits such as the functions for physical donations, as well as this GoFundMe campaign. I discussed the transfer of current funds up to date. The bank is happy to announce that they will waive the fee of transfer in form of a bank draft, as a generosity from their part.

Successfully, the first withdrawal of the GoFundMe funds were delivered into my bank account. As soon as I was aware that the deposit arrived, a trip to the bank where the bank issued the bank draft for withdrawal, and the donations were delivered by me to Brian, who was actively talking to a loyal customer giving condolences on the unfortunate events that happened to the business. With that said, he was extremely gracious on the first wave of donations he received from this campaign.

Brian plans to develop the funds from this campaign to possibly help with the restoration and probably the transfer of merchandise that was salvageable, as he has to unfortunately remove everything out so they can properly assess the damages caused by the flood. His main goal is to hopefully get back on his feet so that everyone can come back and enjoy his establishment.

Once again, I want to say thanks to the media for helping the campaign, the supporters reaching out to team up with this GoFundMe fund, and all of you in the community, for showing Brian his legacy and store is a staple to the community.

Thank you

**Update** 08/08/18

With the situation at Brian's Record Option, I wasn't able to contact him via phone, since the extent of the damage rendered him with no power or phone. I ventured down to his shop in person Monday afternoon, to let him know the amazing outcry of support we've all shown him through this platform, and others.

He is deeply moved by the generosity the community has shown, and quite humble. I like to thank as well to everyone, including the media outlets the sharing and support to this cause. Without you, none of this would be possible. Let's continue to share the information, and help Brian Lispin, keep the legacy and landmark we've all adored in Kingston, and help him out.

Thank you friends.
