In 2017, animal cruelty was video recorded at several Ontario fur farms with the hope of exposing the horrifying conditions mink are forced to live and die in for the fashion industry.  Dead and injured animals,  overcrowding, filthy feces encrusted cages, toxic sludge pits of urine, maggot infested food, and other shocking mistreatment of animals was documented.  The evidence was submitted to the OSPCA who investigated the farms but was unable to prosecute the criminal acts of these farm owners due to legal technicalities.

Learn more about the story here: www.endfurfarming.com

The videos were shown on multiple tv outlets and the story of these animals suffering was told on dozens of news and radio stations bringing mass attention of the public to this important issue.

Now, over a year later I am being charged by fur farm owners from Enniskillen, ON under an obscure section of the break and enter criminal code which states that it is illegal to be present where penned animals are kept. To clarify - no property was damaged and not even a door was opened to obtain these videos yet I am facing B & E felony charges  for being a whistle blower against the cruelty of the fur farm industry.

I am asking for your help to cover legal costs of a lawyer to defend myself in the upcoming #MINKTRIAL. The detective who interrogated me during my arrest also hinted that I may be receiving additional charges from the 4 other farms in an attempt to bankrupt or imprison me for taking a stand against "Big Fur".

I have been leading a campaign to implement a ban on fur farming in Ontario for the past year - organizing hundreds of people to protest against fur farms, fur auctions, marching, and lobbying and protesting politicians.  This attack on me is a direct result of the effectiveness our community has had against the fur industry and an attempt to shut down opposition.  If you support direct action, if you support whistleblowers, and if you want to see fur farming ended for good please help me out with a donation for my legal defense fund, attend my court hearings, attend our demonstrations and always speak out against fur wearers.

Yesterday at my pre-trial hearing in Kingston, ON, the judge sided with the prosecutor and ordered my case to proceed to superior court. I am now on my way to a full criminal trial before a jury. The charge of break and enter can carry up to a 10 year prison sentence.

The judge also enacted a gag order which has prevented the media from reporting all the details of the pre-trial thus far. This gag order was requested by the prosecutor and is an attempt to hide animal suffering from the public in order to protect the fur industry. The photo above shows activists with their mouths taped shut in condemnation of the publication ban. The public has a right to know.

If this wasn't enough, at my last pre-trial hearing, I was served with a civil lawsuit by fur farm owners from Enniskillen, ON requesting tens of thousands of dollars for mental distress and to pay for security equipment they installed after I filmed them feeding feces and urine to their animals and releasing that video to media and the police.

If my criminal case is won, it could set new case law which would protect the general public from legal punishment when reporting animal cruelty on private property.

Thus far, with all of your help, I have been able to defeat two other charges while using my arrests and court appearances to generate dozens of media stories that expose the rampant animal abuse happening in Ontario fur farms and turn hundreds of thousands of people against the fur trade.

The fur industry has been using every mechanism at their disposal to punish me for exposing the horrors of fur farming to the public. Fur bans are starting to pass city by city in the USA, clothing designers are dropping fur, and now fur farmers in Canada are questioning whether or not to continue as activists push them from all sides and the public turns away from fur.

Please donate and share my story so we can continue to save animals lives!

Hello friends!

A quick update: My B&E charge was downgraded to a trespass charge with no fine/no record in Collingwood last month. (media story at bottom)

However, the prosecutor in Kingston has escalated to schedule a pre-trial hearing and it looks like this will turn out to be a trial. Please, I'm asking for more contributions to my legal defence fund. Please join me at my pre-trial hearing on July 5th in Kingston

This week the Crown Prosecutor in Oshawa made a deal with my lawyers and the B&E charge against me has been stayed on condition I take a peace bond of 1 year. This basically means the charge has been dropped and I can't get arrested or go near the mink farm in Enniskillen.

This is a huge victory for myself and the animal rights movement. The fact that the charge was not pursued gives a green light to other activists & groups who wish to film animal exploitation enterprises on private property. This is huge because activists all over Europe have been using these tactics to expose the fur farm industry overseas and the horrific footage has lead to fur farm bans across Europe, clothing designers and stores dropping fur, and creating a public stigma against the entire fur industry.

Even though this charge has been dropped, I was recently charged again with B&E by the Walt Freeman fur farm I recorded in Kingston, ON, Canada last year. I am also facing one more charge in Collingwood as well. My lawyers and I will continue to fight these charges because the animals need people like us to tell their stories. If people know where fur comes from they won't buy it.

Big thank you to everyone who has generously donated to my legal defense! I am proud to have such an awesome community of people who support direct action for animals!

I wanted to update everyone to let them know I have recently been arrested and charged with B&E by a second fur farm that I recored - the Rob Ritchie fur farm. I am now currently involved in a second trial against the fur industry for exposing their mistreatment of animals.

I have increased the campaign goal to $20,000. The lawyer I have retained is vegan and is only charging me legal aid rates but even so, resources are quickly being depleted. Please share this gofundme again tell your friends and family about the horrors of fur farming as "fur season" approaches. Never be afraid to speak up for animals!
