Jeannette Tossounian was wrongly convicted and spent two years in harsh conditions in an Ontario jail for women. While in jail, she was put into solitary confinement for defying the jail's policy forcing women inmates to wear bras. She was forced to go on hunger strike to finally have the policy repealed.

Jeannette's conviction was overturned by the overturned by the Ontario Court of Appeal in July 2017. Now she is seeking reparations for the harm done to her by the province's criminal justice system.

The Ontario Civil Liberties Association (OCLA ) is launching a legal defence fund to assist Jeannette. Our first target for this campaign is $1000, which will be used to help Jeannette obtain a legal opinion regarding her demand for reparations from the province.

Jeannette Tossounian is a life-long artist, author, and an authentic and dedicated defender of civil rights. Her fight for police, prison, and criminal justice system reform advances the civil liberties of all Ontarians and Canadians. The OCLA asks concerned individuals to support this fight by making a donation to this campaign.

All donations in excess of the target amount will be used to assist Jeannette in her ongoing civil rights legal battles. Jeannette plans to be self-represented in her reparations case and there will be many court fees and document-production costs in excess of the $1000 for the initial legal opinion.

About the OCLA:
The OCLA vigorously advocates for authentic and unqualified freedom of expression of individuals, on all topics and in every form, in accordance with the right to free expression enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The OCLA also advocates for unimpeded civil liberties and civil rights of all persons, in dealings with public and private institutions and corporations.
