The Sock Project:

The Sock Project began with collecting silly socks for myself to get me through medical issues, that have persisted for over a year. The plan started as collecting 365 pairs of silly socks; one for every day of the year.

As days progressed, family and friends were very kind in sending socks. One day I decided to create a YouTube Video (The Sock Project!) that would reach more people about my project. I then sent the video into McGregor Socks and a few radio and television stations.

Shortly after, I was speaking with radio and television stations about my story. Then, McGregor, kindly sent a huge box of socks from their company.I took a video of me opening the box and I sent it into the company thanking them and off handedly mentioned how it would be very cool to develop my own line of adult socks that would support Auto Immune Research, not to mention the happiness a pair of fun socks would bring people living with rare and serious Auto Immune Diseases. Very quickly, I was on the phone with The Vice President of McGregor Socks and he is very interested in meeting with me about the project. We are meeting this summer!

I soon decided that it would be exceptional if I could get my story across Canada for Canada's 150th birthday. I have sent my story into CBC from Newfoundland to BC and they have begun to get back to me! I would hope to be in each province from Newfoundland to BC this summer, airing The Sock Project, to bring awareness to Auto Immune Diseases. I believe developing my own line of socks, that will donate funds to research will do so!
I also believe reaching my own goal of 365 pairs of socks will bring awareness too! Auto Immune Diseases are difficult to diagnose, let alone live with. We are moving into a celebratory time for our nation and we need a change, in many areas, especially getting the help and awareness to people living with Auto Immune.

I recently met with a local Ottawa sock company; Uptown Socks who were inspired by my story and donated 3 pairs of their socks to my project. Like many, they are here to help me reach my goal of 365 pairs of socks!

The kindness of family, friends and sock companies has been exceptional!

Part three of The Sock Project will be a line of children's Socks, that will also support Auto Immune Research, that I hope children will design! I'm not there yet, but I will discuss this line with McGregor, and possibly, other companies. Should this piece approve we would donate the socks to children in hospitals living with challenging illnesses. Children are a huge piece of who I am, as my post secondary education is in Child Development and Elementary Education.

I plan for the project to begin the 9th of July, in Newfoundland and finish in BC August 2 (returning to Ottawa on this date). I would hope to spend approx. 2-3 nights in each Province.

While in each province I hope to give out some (my?) socks I've collected to people living with Auto Immune Diseases.

I have been in touch with West Jet with a proposal in hopes they can sponsor the project on the travelling front!

In the midst of all of this I have started to mail out some of the crazy socks I've received to others living with Auto Immune Diseases. These are folks I have connected with via social media!
